Sunday, January 27, 2007 (10:00A - 12:00P) FREE for Scouts; $5/pp for “Racing” Adults & Siblings*

Pinewood Derby, 22760 Olympiad Road, Mission Viejo (Florence Joyner Olympiad Park)

Start your Engines! This is another event not to miss in the month of January. Cub Scouts will enter their creation in the race. If you are not able to attend, please let me know so we can at least make sure your Scout’s Car is on the track. This is a social “potluck” event for families with the main dish sponsored by the Pack. Our Den is asked to purchase chip bags for the estimated 125 attendees. Understanding that we all have busy schedules and to help the Akelas bring a box of pre-packaged chips the Den will incur the expense and allocate a portion of the bill to each family. If anyone has a Costco or Sam’s Club Membership and would be willing to help coordinate the acquisition of the chips, please let me know. Thanks.

*Families are invited to attend these events/meetings for Free and the $5/pp fee is for those Akelas & Siblings wishing to acquire an official Pinewood Derby Car. Cars will be available at the Pack Meeting on December 18 and we will pick up extras from the Scout Shop for those wishing to purchase one at the Den Meeting in January. I personally encourage the Akelas to purchase a Pinewood Car and join in the fun with their Scouts. There is an “open” division for you to race your “best”.

Dear Families of Pack 766,

Last year we had such a good time with Snow Play for the boys, we decided to do it again! For folks new to the pack this year, Snow Play is a ‘tubing’ hill in Big Bear where pretty much anyone can grab a tube and slide down the hill, no skill required! There is also a ‘magic carpet’ so you don’t have to walk up the hill to slide again!. Doesn’t get better than that!

So the details are as follows:

1. Jan 12th in Big Bear. Same hill as last year. www.bigbearsnowplay.com

a. There are 2 hills for Snow Play and we are at the hill right next door to the Motel 6

2. Fees

a. Cubs are free, paid for by pack money earned from the sale of popcorn

b. Siblings and parents are at the negotiated reduced rate of $18 per person

i. Children 2 through 6 can ride free but they must be accompanied with a paid adult the entire time they are on the hill

3. If you want to go please be prepared to pay and fill out a waiver form at the Pack Meeting next Tuesday, December 18th

a. Pay

i. Please make checks payable out to Pack 766 and I will get the full amount to Snow Play in advance

ii. This will allow us to get the tickets separately and avoid the long lines, and get in an hour early when there are very few other people!

b. Waiver

i. Form is attached. You must complete the waiver form including parent who will be on the hill as well as each child’s name

ii. You do not need a separate form for each child, but rather clearly list all the children’s names who will be attending on the same form

4. Time of event.

a. I was able to negotiate they open up the hill for us at 9AM versus 10AM. Any sponsored prepaid group will be allowed on at 9AM, otherwise 10AM

5. Lodging and meals

a. There are a couple of hotels in the area, the closest being the Motel 6. We stayed there last time. It is a basic Motel 6. Great breakfast down the street

b. As we did last year this is a “bring your own lunch” event. If you prefer there is a couple of sandwich shops and pizza place that deliver near by

6. Misc

a. Bring an extra set of clothes

b. No helmets allowed

c. We will bring up an EZ-UP so you can find us

d. Please bring a lawn chair as seating was limited

Let’s have some have fun!

If you have any questions please contact me at my email address of Larry_Dalphy@adaptec.com. My office number is 408-957-1139 but please note I spend a fair amount of time in the lab so not at my desk.

Regards, Larry
