Wood Badge Departure Prayer Request

As most are aware Wood Badge Training starts this weekend.

Some Council and District Trainers left yesterday to get the weekend ready for the attendees, including me.

This will be a life changing experience.

I am fortunate to have two (2) Wood Badge in the midst, Larry Dalphy and Craig Johnson.

I look forward to their mentorship and many others over the next few months in completing my ticket.

I am asking everyone to keep my family in prayer during this absence and for me as I embark on this journey.

I look forward to returning with significant, measurable, appropriate, realistic and timely tasks that will help us as a Pack, District, Council and Community Organization.

So until I return – thank you all for words and encouragement.

Patriot Day - Congratulations!

Pack 766 Den 6 Akelas & Scouts,

I wanted to take a minute to thank all the Scouts and Akelas for making the event today very special. It was rewarding to see some of our own Scouts and others in uniform or just bearing a Scout Hat. However, the most important was Doing! They did a great job and service to our Community.

Thanks for making a difference. And special thanks to Denamarie for making this opportunity available to our Pack and Community. I also wanted to also share a letter from our District Commissioner as stories from various schools continue to come in to his email account.

Great Work!

Letter from Bill Grennell, District Commissioner

Thank you to all of the units and families that participated in a Patriot Day ceremony today! I've heard from several of you already that the ceremonies went really well! We had schools that had anywhere from 10 boys and girls leading their schools in a patriotic ceremony to a couple of schools that had nearly 90 or more participating in their ceremonies!!!! Thank you for helping us instill a sense of patriotism in our children!

Please send in your Patriot Day pictures of today's events! I would like to try and get some of them in various web sites and newsletters.

Presidential Proclamation

September 11, 2001, was etched into America's memory when 19 terrorists attacked us with barbarity unequaled in our history. On Patriot Day, we cherish the memory of the thousands of innocent victims lost, extend our thoughts and prayers to their families, and honor the heroic men and women who risked and sacrificed their lives so others might survive.

Since 9/11, we have recognized the threat posed by terrorists to the safety of the American people and worked to protect our homeland by fighting terrorists abroad. We are confronting terrorism by advancing freedom, liberty, and prosperity as an alternative to the ideologies of hatred and repression. Our Nation pays tribute to our courageous men and women in uniform serving around the world and the devoted members of our law enforcement, public safety, and intelligence communities at home who work night and day to protect us from harm and preserve the freedom of this great Nation.

Seven years ago, ordinary citizens rose to the challenge, united in prayer, and responded with extraordinary acts of courage, with some giving their lives for the country they loved. On Patriot Day, we remember all those who were taken from us in an instant and seek their lasting memorial in a safer and more hopeful world. We must not allow our resolve to be weakened by the passage of time. We will meet the test that history has given us and continue to fight to rid the world of terrorism and promote liberty around the globe.

By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001 (Public Law 107-89), the Congress has designated September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day."

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim September 11, 2008, as Patriot Day. I call upon the Governors of the United States and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, as well as appropriate officials of all units of government, to direct that the flag be flown at half-staff on Patriot Day. I also call upon the people of the United States to observe Patriot Day with appropriate ceremonies, activities, and remembrance services, to display the flag at half-staff from their homes on that day, and to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. eastern daylight time to honor the innocent Americans and people from around the world who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this eighth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand eight, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third.

GEORGE W. BUSH

Special Patch & Recruiting

Ok, I am not for sure what the official special patch is for inviting a friend that attends the Pack Meeting next Tuesday at 6:00PM; however I found this one on eBay and I am pretty sure this is what it looks like in real.  This is a temporary award and can be worn on the pocket; however, I do stand corrected on the need to remove the immediate recognition from the uniform if an award is worn.

Here is the official rule:
Only one temporary patch may be worn at a time; however, Cub or Webelos Scouts may wear the Progress Through Ranks (Immediate Recognition) or Webelos Compass Points Emblem suspended from the right pocket button in addition to any temporary patch attached on the pocket.

Holders are available at the Scout Shop

The official Recruiter Strip is only earned if one of the friends invited joins the Pack and is attached to the Scouts Uniform centered directly below the right pocket on the uniform..

ANNOUNCEMENT!

The 2008/2009 Scouting Year is beginning once again and this year we have a permanent home for our Den. Special Thanks to Reannah and Sean for helping us secure this location.

This location gives us direct access to hiking trails, sports fields, playground, outdoor meeting area at the Norman Center and an environment suitable to work on achievements, electives and training.

This month our theme is New Buddies and coincides with this years annual recruiting theme, MY BEST FRIEND IS A SCOUT!

Please remember to bring your Scout Book as it will be referenced during our Den Meetings.

We will follow up with our summer den activities, including bike safety, space elective and what's cooking. Also we will introduce America Special (9/11), Past Importance and Being a Leader.

Also students at Castille will be invited to the 9/11 ceremony taking place the following day. Carden Scouts will take place in the Friday Assembly. Uniforms are strongly recommended to be worn during the assemblies.

Please RSVP!
Also information for Fall Den activities will be available at the Den Meeting.

Denner: Master Rigel

-----
2008/2009 Monthly Den Meetings will be held at Newhart Middle School in Mission Viejo. These meetings are designed to help cover the achievements and electives of the Bear Handbook.

However, Scouts are required to perform certain tasks at home in order to complete most of the achievements and electives.

Meeting Room: Ms. Sartoris, Room 6
(Location Specific: Inside the Building to the right of the main office.)

*** NOTE: Independently completed achievements, electives, academic and/or sports tasks must be done with the an emphasis on introducing your Scout to the idea, sport or academic subject, allowing him to participate in it and encouraging him to do his best.

The Academics and Sports program focuses on learning and skill development, not winning. All Scouts should knowingly use one of the twelve core values of Cub Scouts while undertaking Scouting Activities. Values in Action!

Deadline for submitting independently completed task is today for inclusion in the next pack meeting. Submission after the Den Meeting will be including in the following month.
